Hi! I'm Myles.

Do you need technical muscle for your project? I'll handle the heavy lifting.

About

I’m a software developer based in Baltimore, Maryland. I have a strong passion for developing web applications, and most of my developing experience has come from creating interfaces for lab software. I’m also extremely interested in video game development for platformers and RPGs.

Background

I graduated from Morehouse College in 2013 where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Since then, I’ve been exploring many of the different career options for programmers. I have developed for the government, tutored Computer Science students, taught AP Computer Science and Calculus for high school, attended graduate school at Ohio State, and worked as a freelancer.

What am I working on?

Currently I’m revamping some of my older projects, like my bus dismissal system. I am an extremely serious video gamer, so I’m building an application to help compare projectile frame data for the characters in Smash Bros as a method of learning React.js. I’m also wrapping up a personal fangame on ClickTeam Fusion and considering a move to Unity or Game Maker as my main game development tool soon.

What can I do for you?

I like to describe myself as reliable “technical muscle”. Show me a sketch of how you want your site to look or what you want to analyze and I will work my hardest to turn that dream into reality.

I like to focus on creating functional, smart programs and apps that make people’s lives easier. I enjoy extracting valuable information from databases and presenting it in a simple and clean manner to users. I can develop what you need and design what you want.

Employment and Experience

Software Developer

Knowledge Is Power Program: Gaston College Preparatory

KIPP is a non-profit network of schools throughout the country that educates children of all ages in underserved communities. I'm a founding student of KIPP: Gaston College Preparatory, so I've witnessed the school system grow from its very beginnings in 2001 as a middle school student. As a software developer, I was brought on board to build a system from scratch using Javascript and PHP that would manage student bus dismissals on a daily basis. It has been helping primary school kids get home safely to their parents since 2013.

AP Computer Science A and AP Calculus Teacher

Knowledge Is Power Program: GCP Pride High School

I taught the first year of AP Computer Science offered at KIPP GCP: Pride High ever. I managed classes of 15-20 students, prepared engaging and rigorous lessons for students daily, and was evaluated weekly by administrators to make sure the courses were following AP standards.

Software Development Intern

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

In 2014, I revamped the GUI for the Livermore Tomography Tools GUI Development Project using Qt and C++. My responsibility was to add an interface that would allow users to see each picture slice taken by a CT scanner, along with any other properties associated with that slice. I provided and received feedback for the LTT GUI's design through team meetings. In 2012, I developed a GUI that made it easier to see edge/vertex/face object properties in a meshing application using Qt/C++ and Python. In 2011, I developed a web application that used Groovy and the Grails framework to handle internal tasking requests for the Counterproliferation Analysis and Planning System. Finally in 2010, I was exposed to JQuery through creating a monitoring tool for the Earth Systems Grid project.
